What it is

What Morpheus8 Does, and Where It Sits Between Microneedling and Surgery.

Morpheus8 is a fractional radiofrequency microneedling device. Fine insulated needles pass through the surface and deliver radiofrequency heat into the deeper skin and the fat layer beneath it, which tightens tissue and prompts new collagen. It is used for laxity, acne scarring, pores and texture. At Club 116 in Manhattan it costs from $1,200 a session.

Plain microneedling works at the surface. Morpheus8 works underneath it. The needles reach a set depth, then release radiofrequency energy that heats the tissue to the point where it contracts and starts rebuilding. Because the heat is delivered below the surface rather than across it, the device is suitable for every skin tone, which most lasers are not. Depth and energy are set per area: lighter over the cheeks, deeper along the jaw. It tightens and smooths. It does not lift a heavy jowl or replace lost volume, and we will say so at the consult.

Who it is for

Early laxity along the jawline and cheeks, acne scarring, enlarged pores and uneven texture. The person in their late thirties to fifties who has noticed the jaw softening and wants it tighter without threads or surgery. It is the step between microneedling and a thread lift, and it is often the right first step for someone who has never had an energy treatment.

Why do it here

Settings are chosen for your skin type rather than the highest the device allows. A test patch comes first where indicated. Downtime is quoted honestly before you book, not after. A doctor signs off on every plan, and nobody here works on commission, so if RF microneedling at a lighter setting would do the job for $300 less, you will be told. The price is published.

What happens

Before, During and After.

Before
The consult

Skin type, sun history and medicines are checked, because energy devices are calibrated to all three. The clinician photographs you as a baseline and the doctor confirms the plan. Numbing cream goes on for about thirty minutes before the treatment starts.

During · 60 min
In the room

The handpiece moves across the face in passes, each one placing a grid of fine needles and delivering a pulse of radiofrequency. It feels like heat and pressure, sharper over bone and the jaw. The settings are chosen for your skin, not the highest the device allows. The treatment itself is about thirty minutes of the hour.

After · 2 to 3 days
What to expect

Redness, warmth and some swelling for two to three days, then a few days of tiny dry marks in a grid that makeup covers after the first day. Plan for a real week before you want to look your best in a photograph.

Results · two to three
When you see it

Tighter skin from six weeks, building for three to six months after the last session as collagen forms. Two or three sessions, six weeks apart, is the usual course. Photographs under the same light at the end show the change.

Good to know

Read This Before You Book.

Downtime and aftercare

Redness for one to three days and small dry marks for up to a week. Sunscreen every day for a month and no direct sun. No retinoids or acids for a week, nothing hot on the skin for two days, and no makeup for the first twenty four hours. Wash gently, moisturize, and let the marks come off on their own. Most people work from home for a day or two or book a Friday.

Not for you if

You are pregnant, have a tan or recent sun exposure, a pacemaker or a metal implant in the area (radiofrequency and metal do not mix), an active infection, a history of keloid scars, or you have used isotretinoin in the last six months. Darker skin types need particular settings; we check rather than guess.

Questions

Morpheus8 in NYC: Questions People Ask First.

How much does Morpheus8 cost in NYC?

At Club 116 on Central Park South, Morpheus8 for the face is $1,200 a session and members pay $960. Face and neck together is $1,600. The price is published so you can compare it, and the exact figure for your case is put in writing at the consultation.

How many Morpheus8 sessions do I need and how long does it last?

Two or three sessions, six weeks apart. Results build for three to six months after the last one and most people hold them with a single session a year. If photographs show nothing has moved after the course, the plan changes rather than continues.

Morpheus8 vs threads vs surgery: which one do I need?

It depends on how much the tissue has moved. Morpheus8 tightens skin that is slightly loose but still in the right place; it does not lift. PDO threads reposition tissue that has begun to drift, such as early jowls, and last about a year. A facelift is for skin and tissue that have dropped enough that nothing else will reach them, and we do not do surgery here. Most people who ask are earlier than they think, and Morpheus8 or RF microneedling is the honest answer. The consult tells you which.

What is the downtime after Morpheus8?

Two to three days of redness and swelling, then tiny dry grid marks for up to a week. You can go back to work the next day if you do not mind looking flushed, but plan a real week before an event.

Does Morpheus8 hurt?

Numbing cream goes on for thirty minutes first. Most people describe heat and pressure, sharper along the jaw and over bone. It is tolerable rather than pleasant, and it is over in about thirty minutes.

Is Morpheus8 safe for dark skin?

Yes. Because the heat is delivered below the surface through insulated needles, Morpheus8 suits every skin tone, unlike some lasers and IPL. Deeper skin types still need particular settings, which is why skin type is assessed first.
