What it is

What Laser Genesis Does With No Downtime, and What It Cannot Do.

Laser Genesis is a non ablative laser treatment, meaning it heats the skin without breaking its surface. The laser gently warms the upper dermis to stimulate collagen and shrink the tiny capillaries that cause diffuse redness. It is used for redness, rosacea, enlarged pores and fine lines. At Club 116 in Manhattan it costs from $350 a session and takes 30 minutes.

Most lasers work by injuring the skin so it heals better. Laser Genesis works by warming it. The handpiece is held a short distance from the face and moved continuously, so the heat builds evenly in the dermis (the living layer under the surface) without any single spot getting hot enough to wound. That warmth tells the skin to make collagen and closes the small vessels that make cheeks look flushed. Nothing is broken, so there is nothing to heal. The trade is that the change is gradual and modest per session, which is why it is a course of four to six rather than one big treatment. It refines. It does not tighten a jawline or lift pigment; IPL and Morpheus8 do those.

Who it is for

Diffuse redness and rosacea, enlarged pores, fine lines, a dull surface, and a general refresh before an event. It is safe on most skin tones, which makes it the alternative we offer when IPL is not. It suits the person who wants a real result and cannot take a day off their face for it, and it pairs well with a signature facial.

Why do it here

Settings are chosen for your skin type rather than the highest the device allows, and a test patch comes first where indicated. A doctor signs off on the plan and nobody works on commission, so if the redness is rosacea that needs a prescription first, or pigment that needs IPL, you are told rather than booked for six sessions that will not reach it. The price is published.

What happens

Before, During and After.

Before
The consult

Skin type, sun history and medicines are checked, because energy devices are calibrated to all three. The clinician looks at whether your redness is vessels, inflammation or both, and photographs you as a baseline. No numbing is needed. Makeup comes off and you put on protective goggles.

During · 30 min
In the room

The handpiece is held just above the skin and moved steadily across the face in passes, building a warmth that most people describe as pleasant, like sun on the face. There is no snap and no sting. The settings are chosen for your skin, not the highest the device allows. The work itself is about twenty minutes.

After · no downtime
What to expect

The skin is warm and slightly pink for about an hour, then simply looks better. You can put makeup on and go back to work. There are no marks, no flaking and nothing to cover.

Results · course of 4 to 6
When you see it

Redness calms after the first session, often the same week. Pores and fine lines refine across a course of four to six sessions, two to four weeks apart, as collagen builds. Most people then maintain with a session every few months.

Downtime and aftercare

None. Pinkness fades within an hour. Sunscreen every day for a month and no direct sun, no retinoids or acids for a week, and nothing hot on the skin for two days (skip the sauna and hot yoga). Makeup is fine straight away.

Not for you if

You are pregnant, have a tan or recent sun exposure, an active infection or a cold sore in the area, a history of keloid scars, or you have used isotretinoin in the last six months. Photosensitizing medicines need to be discussed. If you have a pacemaker or an implant, say so; it matters for some energy devices. Darker skin types get particular settings; we check rather than guess.

Questions

Laser Genesis in NYC: Questions People Ask First.

How much does Laser Genesis cost in NYC?

At Club 116 on Central Park South, Laser Genesis is $350 a session and members pay $280. The price is published, and the exact figure for your case is put in writing at the consultation before anything starts.

How many Laser Genesis sessions do I need and how long do results last?

A course of four to six sessions, two to four weeks apart. Redness calms early; pores and lines refine over the course. Results last several months and most people maintain with a session every few months. Because there is no downtime, many people in Manhattan simply keep it in the diary.

Is there really no downtime with Laser Genesis?

Yes. The laser warms the skin without breaking it, so there is nothing to heal. You leave pink for about an hour and can put makeup on straight away. It is the one laser here you can have on a lunch break and return to a meeting.

Does Laser Genesis work for rosacea and redness?

It helps the diffuse redness caused by small dilated vessels, and it calms the flush that comes with rosacea. It does not cure rosacea, which is a medical condition that may also need prescription treatment, and the doctor will say so. Broken capillaries you can see as individual lines respond better to IPL.

Laser Genesis or IPL, which one should I have?

Laser Genesis for diffuse redness, pores, fine lines, and any skin tone that IPL is not safe for. IPL for distinct brown spots and visible capillaries in lighter to medium skin, with a week of flaking. Many people do both across a year. The consult tells you which to start with.

Does Laser Genesis hurt?

No. Most people describe a warmth like sun on the face. There is no snap, no sting and no numbing cream, which is why it is called the lunchtime laser.
