What an Infrared Sauna Does, and What We Will Not Claim for It.
An infrared sauna is a private cabin in which infrared panels warm the body directly rather than heating the air, so it is comfortable at a lower temperature than a traditional sauna. People use it for recovery after training, for winding down before sleep, and for thirty minutes of enforced stillness. At Club 116 in Manhattan it costs $60.
Infrared is the same warmth you feel from sunlight on skin, without the ultraviolet. Because it heats you rather than the room, you sweat and feel deeply warm at an air temperature well below a traditional sauna, which is why people who cannot stand a hot room can sit through this one. That is what it does: you get warm, you sweat, and you leave loose and relaxed with a good chance of sleeping well that night. We do not claim it detoxes you, burns fat, boosts anything or treats any condition, because the evidence does not support saying so and we would rather you trusted the rest of this site.
Who it is for
The end of a training day. The half hour after a sports massage or compression, when the body is already loose. The person who sleeps badly and wants a warm, screen free wind down. The person who simply wants thirty minutes where nobody can reach them. In winter, most of Midtown.
Why do it here
The cabin is private, so nobody else is in it. Towels, water and a robe are provided; bring nothing. The screening asks about heart conditions and implants, because heat is not for everyone, and there is a doctor down the corridor. The compression sleeves, the massage rooms and the recovery IV are on the same floor, so the sauna can finish a recovery visit rather than be a trip of its own.
Before, During and After.
A few questions the first time: heart conditions, implants, blood pressure, pregnancy, medicines, and whether you have eaten and drunk today. Anything recent on the skin matters too, because heat on top of a peel, laser or microneedling the same day is a bad idea and we will not book them together.
A private cabin, a robe, a bottle of water and thirty minutes. Sit, lie back, read, or do nothing. The heat builds gradually and you sweat properly by the halfway point. Step out early if you feel light headed; nobody is timing you against a target.
Warm, loose and usually sleepier. Drink water, cool down for a few minutes before heading out, and keep the evening easy. Many people report sleeping well that night.
The relaxation is immediate and the good night's sleep is the same night. There is no course and nothing builds up; it is a habit, not a treatment. Members book it after every session.

Downtime and aftercare
None beyond water and an easy evening. Rehydrate; you will have sweated more than you think. Skip alcohol before and straight after, and eat something if you have not.
Not for you if
You have certain heart conditions or an implanted device; we ask, and the doctor decides. You have a fever or an active infection, uncontrolled blood pressure, a recent clot or deep vein thrombosis, or you are pregnant, in which case tell us first and speak to your obstetrician. Not on the same day as anything that has just broken or resurfaced the skin, such as microneedling, a peel or laser.
Members
Members pay $50, 20% off list, and the first signature facial is included when you join. Members tend to add the sauna to every recovery visit.

Infrared Sauna in NYC: Questions People Ask First.
How much does an infrared sauna cost in NYC?
At Club 116 on Central Park South a thirty minute session in a private infrared cabin is $60, and members pay $50. Towels, water and a robe are included, and there is nothing to bring. No consultation fee, no deposit to book.
How long is a session, and how often can I use it?
Thirty minutes, and as often as you like once the screening has cleared you. Many members use it after every training session or every massage. Drink water each time, and step out early on any day you feel light headed.
What is the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna?
A traditional sauna heats the air to a high temperature and the air heats you. An infrared sauna heats you directly with infrared panels, so the air stays much cooler and the session is easier to tolerate for the full thirty minutes. You still sweat; you just do not gasp.
Who should not use an infrared sauna?
Anyone with certain heart conditions or an implanted device, anyone with uncontrolled blood pressure, a fever, an infection or a recent clot, and anyone who is pregnant unless their obstetrician has agreed. Tell us before you book and the screening double checks on the day.
Does an infrared sauna detox you or burn fat?
No, and we will not tell you otherwise. You sweat water and salt, not toxins, and any weight you lose in the cabin is water that comes back with your next glass. What it reliably does is leave you warm, loose and relaxed, and for many people it helps them sleep that night.
Where is it, and what do I bring?
Nothing. Towels, water and a robe are provided. The cabin is at 116 Central Park South, Suite 3, in Midtown Manhattan, three minutes from the N, Q, R and W at 57th Street, open 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday.
