What it is

What a Hydrafacial Does in 45 Minutes, and How Long It Lasts.

A Hydrafacial is a device based facial that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and infuses serums in one continuous pass, using a spiral vortex tip that lifts debris out of the pores while pushing hydrating and antioxidant serums in. It suits almost every skin type and needs no downtime. At Club 116 in Manhattan it costs $275 and takes 45 minutes.

The handpiece does four things in sequence. First a gentle acid solution loosens dead cells and softens the plugs in the pores. Then the vortex tip, a spinning head with gentle suction, draws that debris out; you can see it in the waste jar afterwards. Then a serum matched to your skin, usually hyaluronic acid with antioxidants and peptides, is pushed into the freshly cleared pores rather than sitting on top of them. An LED step finishes it. Because the exfoliation is liquid rather than abrasive, the skin is not scratched, which is why there is no redness to wait out. The result is skin that looks clearer, plumper and more even under light the same evening.

Who it is for

Anyone before an event, a flight, a shoot or an interview. Congested or dull skin. People who want a visible result without a single day of pink, and people who are new to facials and want the most predictable one. It works on oily, dry, combination and most sensitive skin, with the serum and the acid strength adjusted to suit.

Why do it here

A clinician reads your skin under proper light before the handpiece touches it, and chooses the settings and serum to match, rather than running the same pass on everyone. Nobody works on commission. If a cheaper facial would do more for your skin that day, you hear it first. And the Hydrafacial is one visit with no commitment: start with one, decide the rest later.

What happens

Before, During and After.

Before
The consult

A short read of your skin under proper light, your history, any medicines, and what you use at home. If you are congested the clinician may plan extra time on extraction; if you are dry, more on infusion. If a different facial would suit you better, the DiamondGlow for rough texture or the hydrating facial for very reactive skin, we say so before we start.

During · 45 min
In the room

A cleanse, then the handpiece moves over the face in slow passes: exfoliate, extract, infuse. It feels cool and slightly suctioned, like a small vacuum on the skin, and most people find it pleasant. A targeted serum goes on, then a few minutes of LED, then moisturizer and sunscreen. You are on the bed for the full time booked.

After · no downtime
What to expect

Skin that looks clearer, brighter and plumper immediately. No redness in most people; a faint flush that fades within the hour in a few. Makeup can go on straight away.

Results · monthly
When you see it

The glow and smoother texture hold five to seven days. Monthly visits, timed to the skin's renewal cycle, keep pores clearer and tone more even between them. The clinician notes what was used so the next session builds on this one.

Good to know

Read This Before You Book.

Downtime and aftercare

None. Keep it simple for the rest of the day: sunscreen, no acids or retinol that night, and no sauna or hard training until tomorrow. Booking two or three days before an event gives the skin time to settle into its best.

Not for you if

You have an active cold sore, open lesions or a skin infection, a sunburn, or you have used isotretinoin (a prescription acne medicine that thins the skin) in the last six months. Some of the acid and booster steps are not used in pregnancy; tell us and we adjust rather than cancel.

Questions

Hydrafacial in NYC: Questions People Ask First.

How much does a Hydrafacial cost in NYC?

At Club 116 on Central Park South a Hydrafacial is $275 for 45 minutes, and members pay $220. No consultation fee, no deposit to book, and the price is published so you can compare before you call anyone.

How long does a Hydrafacial last?

The visible glow and smoother texture hold about five to seven days. A monthly Hydrafacial keeps pores clearer and tone more even between visits, and that is how most people here book it. One before an event is also entirely reasonable.

Hydrafacial or DiamondGlow?

Both exfoliate and infuse in one pass. Hydrafacial uses liquid exfoliation and suction, and suits congested, oily or combination skin. DiamondGlow uses a diamond tip, a mechanical exfoliation, and suits dry, dull or rougher texture. The clinician picks for you under proper light, and will say if the cheaper one would do more.

Does a Hydrafacial hurt?

No. It feels cool and lightly suctioned, and most people describe it as relaxing. There are no needles and no heat.

Is a Hydrafacial worth it before an event?

It is the facial most often booked for exactly that, because there is no downtime and the skin looks its best within a day or two. Book it two or three days ahead rather than the morning of, so the skin has settled.

Can I have a Hydrafacial if my skin is sensitive?

Usually yes, with the acid strength turned down and a calming serum chosen. If your skin is very reactive, the clinician may suggest the hydrating and sensitive skin facial at $195 instead, and you will hear that before we start.
